Can YOU solve the question above... under the high pressure of a national exam?

Probably not. 

The above question made the headlines after the 2019 PSLE Math Paper. Even the smarter students had a hard time with this one and were very demoralised that they couldn’t solve it. 

This was the type of question that made students cry after the exam and parents crying foul. Why? Because they said that it was out of syllabus... but was it really? 

While the question does look like a Math Olympiad question, the fact is that this question is still within the syllabus. 

For my PSLE Intensive Program, this is taught as part of the topic called “Composite Figures” where students worked on the following to arrive at a solution:

1) Spatial visualisation skills,

2) Learnt to work with gaps and

3) Reconstructing shapes

1) Primary 6 students who want to score an AL1 - AL3 Grade in Math but have been unsuccessful time and again... even after all the hard work and many tuition classes, causing them to lose hope.

3) Primary 6 students who used to score Band 1 for Math but began scoring 40 - 59 when they entered Primary 4 and especially Primary 5... due to their weakness in the Paper 2, especially the problem sums.
